The holy word "together"

Why do the Greeks celebrate not the victory, as is customary, but Ohi Day? Because decision making is almost more difficult to achieve a goal. And the heroism of such a decision lies precisely in the fact that no one knows whether there will be a Victory ... Former Greek Ambassador Andreas Friganas spoke about this at last year's Ohi Day celebration at MSLU. And what little Greece was worth, this decision - to confront the invaders, far superior in strength, was told from the MSLU stage on October 25 this year.

The shots of the documentary were taken to war years, and sometimes it seemed that on the screen it was not Athens, but our besieged Leningrad, and not the girls from the choir of the Greek Cultural Center (SCC) who sang “Children of Greece” - a common prayer for all the victims sounds under the vaults of the hall. The song “Cranes” carried the sadness up, and it didn’t matter that they didn’t sing in Russian - this is the case when everything is clear without translation. This fusion - Greek and Russian - accompanied the whole evening. Theodora Giannitsy, director of the concert hall and the main organizer of the evening, translated the speeches of distinguished guests, including the Consul General of Greece in Moscow, Nicholas Krikos. Literary and musical composition performed by students and teachers of the State Concert Hall sounded in two languages. And the affectionate "multi-consonant" Greek was becoming clearer ...

In addition, the MSLU rector Irina Kraeva was pleased with the message: “Greek has been added to our 36 foreign languages that are studied at the university!” And the chairman of the Association of Friendship Societies of the Peoples of Greece and Cyprus Georgy Muradov added that now the Greek language has also entered school programs of the Russian Federation. Georgy Lvovich finished with these words: “2020 is coming - a special year. This is not only the year of the 80th anniversary of Ohi Day, the resistance of the Greek people to fascism. For us, for Russia, this is the year of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, in which together we defeated the greatest evil in the world. On this holy word “together” I want to finish my speech. ”

Conversation with the Consul

If you are lucky enough to work as a volunteer at Ohi Day at MSLU ...

If you marked the names of the guests in the queue on the list at the entrance ...

If instead of a surname you suddenly heard a native “Yasas!” Above your ear, and when you looked up you saw a sunny and affectionate face, know: this is a real Greek! And if a young man with a guest nearby called his name - Nicholas Cricos, you know: this is the Consul General of Greece in Moscow.

There is no need that smartly dressed girls are waiting for distinguished guests (their names are on the plates in their hands) and are ready to accompany the ambassadors and consuls to the house: VIPs are not about Greece (we already wrote about this). Therefore, a little later, you can easily approach Mr. Consul and ask about your first impressions of Russia, where he arrived just two weeks ago.

“It is still difficult to say specifically - there was too little time,” smiles Nikolos Krikos. - But first impressions are the most rosy. Weather? Until she scared ... Let's hope that winter doesn’t scare - we will adapt! The faces of the people here? Of course, they differ from the Greek, but they do not seem to me aliens - rather, close and dear. I hope that when I get to my feet firmly, I can learn more about the Russians and tell more about my impressions. To do this, we need some kind of common holiday, a common action in which everyone participates ...

And a common holiday struck in the assembly hall of Moscow Linguistic University. About him - in the next post.
