The Greek culture was always represented boundless and immense, on the one hand, and at the same time precise and finished in the perfection - on the other. Still in Ancient Hellas as symbolical expression of such association of contrasts in a single whole signs on a spiral and a meander which have been taken for a basis by development of an emblem of «the Greek cultural center " in Moscow acted. In an antiquity these signs designated infinite current of time and finiteness of repeating time cycles, water as a source of a life (a word the meander occurs from the name of the river running into Aegean sea near Miletus, now - southwest Turkey) and inevitable fading as a birth of the new beginning, the confusing both novel peripetias of destiny and movement on the set direction from sources to wide open spaces novel. There is no need to speak, that all this as well as possible reflects complex(difficult) destinies of Hellenism and the Greek culture in Russia.

 The meander and spiral - widely widespread decorative elements both geographically, and chronologically is represented important. They meet in cultures of the most various peoples and in many respects symbolize mutual penetration and enrichment of cultures, that, certainly, it is represented to one of key problems of our Center. Elements of a meander have been used by us in letters of the name " the Greek cultural center ", and the spiral is submitted on the chosen image. For a basis of the last it is taken special element (a decorative element put on a string like a beads or amulets) from the treasures of Troy stored in the State museum of the fine arts of A.S.Pushkin in Moscow. By destinies appeared in Russia, this ornament, in an antiquity used and in quality protector, we hope, begins symbolical expression of the purpose put by our Center - to keep and increase greatly the Greek culture in Russia. The given splinter of an ancient Greek civilization as well as possible symbolizes an interlacing of historical ways of Greek and Russian peoples in time and space.
